Conversations with Drew

While playing pass on the living room floor:

M (Mama):
Drew, pass [Mama] the [ball]
D (Drew): [Ball] (throws the ball to Mama)
M: Yes, its your [ball], you smart boy! (rolls the ball back)
D: [Ball] (throws the ball in Mama's general direction)
M: Yes! [Ball]! (rolls the ball back to Drew)
(Drew looses interest in the ball and picks up his cymbals)
M: Are you [all done] playing [ball]?
D: [All done] [All done] [All done]
M: Is it time to make some [Music]?
D: [Music] (looks expectantly over at the stereo)
M (while getting up to turn on some music): okay, [Mama] will turn on the [music]!
D: [Music][Music][Music] (starts dancing)



At the lunch table. After eating very little, Drew is flinging his food around, Mama is attempting to get him to eat more variety:

M: Drew, do you want some [cheese]?
D: [Cheerios]
M: Do you want some [peas]?
D: [Cheerios]
M: Do you want a bite of Mama's [apple]?
D: [Cheerios]
M: Do you want me to get you a [cracker]?
D: [Cheerios]
(Mama sighs and reluctantly hands Drew another handful of Cheerios)


After 15 minutes of nursing:

M: Drew are you almost [all done]?
(Drew stops nursing, looks up and shakes his head, and then starts nursing again)
M: Do you want to [play] on the [floor]?
(Drew stops nursing, looks up and shakes his head, and then starts nursing again)
M: Time to finish, Mama wants to get some lunch.
(Drew stops nursing, looks up and shakes his head, and then starts nursing again)
M (sitting Drew up and pulling down her shirt): That's enough, baby. [all done].
D (while pulling on Mama's shirt): [Milk]
[Milk][Milk][Milk][Milk][Milk][Milk]
(Mama gives in and lets Drew nurse a little longer)
